An exceptional house, with grounds of 2,600 m², overlooking the meandering Seine and located at the gates of the Vexin region with its charming villages, in the Val d'Oise department, one hour from Paris.
Accessible via a wrought-iron gate framed by tall stone pillars with flat capitals, which opens onto a drive that leads to the dwelling, the 2,600-m² property is located on the side of a hill above the village. Perched up high, with a 2,500-m2 garden that seems to extend all the way down to the riverbank, it has an exceptional panoramic view of the Seine's meanders, its limestone banks and the forest, which stretches as far as the eye can see.
The house, abutting one side of a tall retaining wall, includes two different size buildings constructed in 1905, which were later connected to each other in 1936 by the then owner, Gabriel Voisin, a famous aviator and friend of the architect Le Corbusier who strongly influenced how the two buildings would be linked. With two storeys as well as a partially converted attic space, the house, with a slate roof, was built out of stone and covered with ochre-colour plaster, which, when combined with its architecture, endows it with a certain Italianesque feel.
On both the ground level and first floor, large glass double doors and casement windows protected by louvred shutters cadence the house's exterior walls and provide ample natural light for its interior. As for the portion that connects the two buildings, designed in an Art Deco style, it only has one storey, but is topped with a roof terrace, the perfect spot for amazing views of the river, its wooded banks and surrounding forest.
The Ground FloorOn the same level as the garden, it has a floor area of approximately 100 m², and is accessible via the central double door entrance, glazed in its upper section, which opens onto an entrance hall with a staircase that leads upstairs. To the left is a family-size kitchen, which provides access to an exterior staircase leading to the upper part of the garden and roof terrace, while, on the right, are two living rooms, the larger one of which spans the entire floor area and height of the Art Deco architectural structure that links the two buildings. With a floor area of nearly 50 m², a floor-to-ceiling height of 4.5 metres and a large atelier window, it creates, with the smaller sitting room, a living area of more than 65 m². In addition, a camouflaged staircase in the large living room leads to a lateral walkway that overlooks the room and connects the two upstairs sections of the different buildings, while a lavatory is located at the end of a small hallway.UpstairsThis spans a floor area of approximately 90 m² and includes a landing, four large bedrooms, three bathrooms with lavatories, as well as an additional washbasin. With hardwood floors, each bedroom has large windows with guardrails - all with breath-taking, unobstructed views of the Seine and forest - which inundate the rooms with natural light. In addition, the generous volumes provide fluid circulation, while, above the large living room, the roof terrace provides an exceptional panorama of the river and wooded expanses that seem to stretch all the way to the horizon.The Partly Converted Attic LevelAccessible via an enclosed staircase from the first-floor landing and built under the eaves, this level includes a cosy, functional space. Converted into a dormitory, it has a washbasin and lavatory, as well as an exposed beam ceiling, which adds a touch of authentic charm, complementing the house's overall historic feel. Lastly, a portion of this floor has been kept as an attic space, which is reserved for storage.
