Großbeeren was first mentioned in documents as "Grossen Bern" in 1271. This makes the municipality one of the oldest places in the region. For many centuries, its development was closely linked to the once ruling noble family of the von Beeren family.
Großbeeren and its districts are not only a good place to live and work, but also a good place to live. Today, the municipality has an infrastructural development potential that it is now exploiting more successfully than ever before in its history. The municipal area also offers a lot for quiet walkers: Extensive forest and meadow areas invite you to take long walks on well-marked hiking trails. Peace and tranquillity are guaranteed. There are also countless opportunities for games, sport and fun. Local playgrounds are maintained by the municipality.
The modernized and expanded school grounds, a spacious three-field sports and multi-purpose hall with a size of more than 1,200 m² and, above all, the diverse range of clubs and associations make the municipality interesting for children and young people. The waterskiing facility on the extensive grounds next to Bahnhofstrasse is also an attraction for water sports enthusiasts, both young and old.
The municipality is located just south of the German capital Berlin and is part of the Berlin/Brandenburg metropolitan region. With its convenient location, Großbeeren offers a pleasant combination of rural charm and proximity to the big city.
The connection to the transport network is excellent, as Großbeeren is easily accessible from several highways, such as the A10 and A115. Local public transport is also well developed, meaning that the nearby cities of Berlin and Potsdam can be reached in a short time. This means that residents of Großbeeren have both the tranquillity of rural life and the advantages of a large city within easy reach.
